| DIRECTED TO - DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS | |
| The 1991 and prior Road and Bridge Specifications required thecontractor to submit his method of curing and protecting concreteplacements when the atmospheric temperature was below 40E in theshade. Beginning with a copied note first used in November 1991,and subsequently in the 1994 Specifications, the contractor is nolonger required to furnish his plan for cold weather curing andprotection. This change was implemented to eliminate unnecessarypaperwork and give the contractor the latitude to use methods hedeemed necessary to comply with the specifications and achieve aquality end product. | |
| It has come to my attention that some field personnel arestill requiring contractors to submit these methods for theEngineer's approval. Please ensure that this practice isdiscontinued as it unnecessarily burdens VDOT and the contractorwith paperwork. | |
