About this Bulletin

Greetings VDOT Team,

What’s coming in 2008?

Earlier, we reported that the emphasis would be on “reshaping” three major areas of the department—the system, the business and the workforce. How will we approach that? The lead story in this edition will tell you more.

Here are some of the concepts for 2008: rapid infrastructure repair technology, comprehensive statewide congestion management and a goal for 20 percent of eligible employees to be teleworking or working alternate schedules.

Next, Commissioner Ekern challenges us in his column to go beyond “on time, on budget.”

Also: Tech-Bytes tells you how to retrieve archived documents much faster than in the past. Best Practices describes how the Madison Heights Bypass project was done with “everyone on the same page.” VDOTer-in-Profile features the national equipment technician of the year.

Oh, don’t forget “Virtual Visit.” It’s a quick photo tour of Virginia Byways and scenic roads you can follow for your driving pleasure this summer.

Happy reading,

Chuck
