Randy Hamilton, P.E.

Bristol District Engineer



Randy Hamilton, P.E., was named Bristol District Engineer of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in February 2015.

A 27-year employee with VDOT, Hamilton most recently served as program investment management director for VDOT’s Lynchburg District, where he oversaw the development and management of VDOT’s Six-Year Improvement Plan for the district.

He also served as VDOT Resident Engineer for the Chatham Residency Office for 11 years, where he was responsible for all VDOT field activities for Pittsylvania County.  

He began his VDOT career as an engineer trainee in the Bristol District, later becoming an assistant resident engineer for the VDOT Chatham Residency. 

Hamilton is a Bristol native and graduated from Virginia High School in 1975. He attended Bluefield State College in Bluefield, W. Va, where he graduated with a degree in civil engineering technology. He started his engineering career in the structural steel business in Bristol, Va., with Bristol Steel and Iron. 

Hamilton is married to Karen Mumpower-Hamilton and they have a grown son, Johnny.
