SPECIFIC SUBJECT: FALSEWORK AND FORMWORK DATE: APRIL 29, 1994
Original w/Signature on file in Construction Division
C. F. GEE
CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER
DIRECTED TO - DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS
It has been brought to our attention that there exists an uncertainty of the differences between the terms: FALSEWORK and FORMWORK.
The Special Provision Copied Note for Section 101.02 Terms, provides a definition for each. For further clarification and examples see the following:
FALSEWORK: The temporary structure erected to support formwork or other work during the process of construction. Examples consist of temporary support of excavations, vertical posting and lateral bracing for the safety and support of structures.
FORMWORK: The temporary structure used to support freshly placed concrete. Examples would include the mold which contacts the concrete and cantilever over brackets.
It is imperative that department personnel, especially inspectors, be fully aware of these terms in their conversations and documentation.
Your usual cooperation is appreciated.
