Students and Recent Graduates

jobs internsThe Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) values college students and recent graduates as we build the VDOT of Tomorrow.

We have several programs for students and recent graduates, including a rotational program, traditional internships and a developmental program for soon-to-be graduates.

VDOT offers opportunities for multiple majors, including: but not limited to:

  • Civil engineering
  • Business
  • Geography
  • Communications
  • Marketing 
  • Building construction
  • Information technology

The VDOT Scholar program is open to rising juniors and seniors, and requires a 3.0 GPA.

Civil engineering majors are preferred, but others are considered.

This program takes place over the summer, with the potential for additional work as available.

EDGE is a two-year full-time program with benefits. Recent graduates rotate through specialties for a year, then focus on one the second year.

It is available to graduates within last two years, or to those who served in the military and possess a bachelor's degree (earned within last six years) in civil, mechanical / industrial / systems engineering or related area.

A 3.0 GPA is required.

VDOT’s internship program offers traditional summer opportunities to current students in a variety of majors, including, but not limited to:

  • Engineers
  • Business majors
  • Communication majors
  • Human resource management majors

These are part-time positions and not eligible for benefits.

Interns are also eligible to work during the rest of the year if work is available in a VDOT location near their school.
