RUMS Case Study added to 2005 Computerworld Honors Collection
RICHMOND-The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and contractor BearingPoint Inc. submitted a case study on VDOT's Right of Way and Utilities Management System (RUMS) that officially became part of the prestigious Computerworld Honors Collection April 3.
C.L. "Les" Griggs Jr., information technology section manager with VDOT's Right of Way and Utilities Division, was given Computerworld's Medal of Achievement in the Government and Non-Profit Organizations category.
The Computerworld Honors Medal of Achievement is presented annually to people who have made outstanding progress for society through the visionary use of information technology. There were 160 recipients in 2005.
The case study becomes part of a collection of such studies from 54 countries. The 2005 Collection is archived in libraries, museums, and academic and research institutions around the world. It will serve as primary source material for scholars and as a resource for individuals seeking to use information technology for solutions to their own challenges.
The RUMS Case Study explores VDOT's need for a computer program that would provide a single, comprehensive view of project and land parcel status and that would track key deadlines and dates. BearingPoint, working with VDOT, developed RUMS to help the Right of Way and Utilities Division effectively manage the complicated and sometimes lengthy right of way process from start to finish. The software program is so successful that other transportation agencies have purchased rights to the source code.
Case studies from the 2005 Computerworld Honors Collection will be available at the official site of the Computerworld Honors Program, where the entire collection is available to scholars, researchers and the public worldwide.
