VDOT SEEKS COMMENT ON CHANGES IN PUBLIC-PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION ACT GUIDELINES
Deadline is Sept. 19, 2005

RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has revised the Public- Private Transportation Act (PPTA) guidelines of 1995 based on amendments enacted by the 2005 General Assembly, and it is seeking public comments on the changes.

The PPTA was enacted by the 1995 General Assembly, and it allows private sector companies to enter into agreements to develop and/or operate transportation facilities in Virginia. The revised PPTA guidelines include:

  • Allowing VDOT to enter into interim agreements to determine project feasibility and financing before negotiating a comprehensive agreement.

  • Promoting competition to create multimodal and intermodal transportation solutions.

  • Requiring increased commitment from the private sector in taking risks.

The draft implementation guidelines are posted on VDOT’s Web site at http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/ppta_guidelines.asp for public review and comment. The deadline for comments is Sept. 19, 2005. An online comment form is provided; comments can be sent via e-mail to IPD@VDOT.Virginia.gov or via U.S. mail to:
