VDOT'S LATEST REPORT CARD SHOWS STEADY IMPROVEMENT WITH COMPLETING PROJECTS ON TIME AND WITHIN BUDGET

RICHMOND - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has completed 74 percent of its construction contracts on time and 81 percent within budget through the first three quarters of this fiscal year (July 2004 - March 2005). That compares to the 27 percent on-time and 72 percent within-budget performance this time one year ago.

"We continue our steady progress toward bringing projects in on time and within budget," said VDOT Commissioner Philip Shucet. "Four years ago we were completing fewer than 20 percent of projects on time. Sound business practices and discipline have brought us a long way forward. Now, we have to continue to do better and make certain that our good business practices are sustainable."
