VDOT’S LATEST REPORT CARD SHOWS MORE CONTRACTS COMPLETED ON TIME
First quarterly report for FY06 released today
RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) completed 86 percent of its construction contracts on time through the first quarter of fiscal year 2006 (July 1, 2005 – Sept. 30, 2005). That compares to 69 percent on-time performance through the first quarter of last fiscal year.
“The heart of VDOT’s performance is the sustained drive to bring construction and maintenance projects in on time and within budget,” said VDOT Acting Commissioner Gregory A. Whirley.
“Our latest report card shows that we are moving forward with improving performance in our most challenging area, which is delivering projects on time. VDOT’s performance depends on our relentless focus to meet the bottom line. We will continue to raise the bar on accountability to strive for better performance across all our core services.”
Budget performance held steady with 85 percent of construction contracts delivered within budget during the first quarter, compared to 87.5 percent through the first quarter of last fiscal year.

In a major effort to conduct business in the public eye, VDOT began releasing quarterly reports and launched its Project Dashboard in 2003. The Dashboard is an online system that provides the latest status on construction projects. It was expanded in 2005 to include the daily status of construction, engineering, maintenance and operations, safety, environmental compliance and finance.
