VDOT QUARTERLY REPORT CARD SHOWS AGENCY DELIVERS MORE PROJECTS ON TIME AND ON BUDGET
Fourth quarterly report for fiscal year 2006 released this week
RICHMOND—The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) continues to improve its delivery of on-time and on-budget construction and maintenance projects, according to its fourth quarter report issued this week.
VDOT completed 84 percent of its construction contracts on time during the 2006 fiscal year, which ran from July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006. This exceeds a goal of 65 percent for this year, and tops the 75 percent score for fiscal year 2005. VDOT also ended this fiscal year with 86 percent of construction projects completed within budget (compared with 78 percent last year).
The department’s delivery of maintenance projects was similarly improved with 79 percent completed on time (compared to 74 percent in fiscal year 2005) and 88 percent of maintenance projects on budget (compared with 80 percent last year).
“VDOT’s improved performance is most readily apparent in recent years as we have focused squarely on the delivery of our construction and maintenance projects on time and on budget,” said VDOT Acting Commissioner Gregory A. Whirley. “This report card shows that we are moving forward and exceeding our goals to provide Virginians with a world-class transportation program. We will continue to raise the bar on accountability to strive for better performance across all our core services.”

The Dashboard is an online system that provides the latest status on construction projects. It was expanded in 2005 to include the daily status of construction, engineering, maintenance and operations, safety, finance and environmental compliance.
