VDOT SCHEDULES CONSOLIDATION PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETINGS
Twelve Meetings Planned Throughout the Commonwealth

RICHMOND — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has scheduled 12 public information meetings throughout the commonwealth to explain its plan to consolidate 91 maintenance facilities by July 1, 2008, discuss the local impacts and collect feedback from local elected officials and citizens. VDOT committed to have these meetings when it announced plans on Nov. 2 to streamline its maintenance facilities from 335 locations to 244. The meetings will give citizens the chance to raise any concerns or offer additional information to be considered before the plan is finalized in mid-December.

“We are confident that the sound business analysis and our comprehensive 2007 business plan are leading us in the direction we must take to address our continued downsizing and the legally required outsourcing of all interstate maintenance,” said David Ekern, VDOT commissioner. “We want to give localities the opportunity to raise any issues and voice any considerations that we may have missed in our analysis before we begin implementing our plan. That is why we are taking the time to explain the plan in each district and to collect the feedback from community leaders.”
