VDOT’s BARBARA REESE FINALIST for CFO of the YEAR
RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Chief Financial Officer Barbara Reese was in good company at the 2006 CFO of the Year Awards Banquet on June 29. She was one of 34 finalists recognized by Virginia Business magazine for leadership and contributions to the company’s growth and profitability.
In light of growing challenges for CFOs, Virginia Business began this program this year to recognize the state’s top financial officers. With the help of a business school dean and two CFOs, the magazine selected award winners representing small private companies, large private companies and public companies. The winner among public companies was Gracia C. Martore with Gannett Co. Inc. in McLean.
“It was an honor to be among these finalists,” Reese said. “To be recognized along with the CFOs of Fortune 500 companies was very gratifying.”
Reese has been instrumental in implementing reforms in VDOT operations and in ensuring more stringent financial controls for the agency. She is responsible for all operating and capital budgeting and programming, procurement, fiscal operations, toll road operations, Commonwealth Transportation Board debt and the financial aspects of Virginia's successful public-private transportation program.
