VDOT’s Ronaldo Nicholson Receives National Honor from US Black Engineer & Info Tech magazine


Chantilly - Ronaldo T. “Nick” Nicholson, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) project manager for the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project, has been named a 2006 Modern-Day Technology Leader by the editors of US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine.

The Modern-Day Tech Leaders - bright men and women who are shaping the future of engineering, science and technology -- will be recognized at a leadership luncheon on February 17, 2006 during the 20th Annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference, a renowned gathering of Black technical professionals. The winners will be profiled in US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine.

Mr. Nicholson has been Project Manager for the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Improvement Project since June 2001. He was Structural and Bridge Engineer for VDOT from 1995 to 2001 and Assistant Resident Engineer for Construction and Preliminary Engineering from 1993 to 1995. Prior to joining VDOT, he was a Senior Design Engineer with Fairfax County Department of Public Works, where he was Project Manager for the Fairfax County Parkway.

Mr. Nicholson received a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas, and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from George Washington University, Washington D.C. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia, and currently serves as a member of Bridge Maintenance Committee of Transportation Research Board and is Past Chairman of the Structural Engineering Committee of the National Capital Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

He resides in Chantilly with his daughters Beanca and Shelbie.
