CALDWELL NAMED VDOT COMMUNICATIONS CHIEF
Brings reporting, corporate and state government experience to the job
RICHMOND - Jeffrey J. “Jeff” Caldwell has been named chief of communications for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
In this role, Caldwell will lead VDOT’s public affairs team to develop targeted marketing and communications programs that provide accurate and timely information about the organization’s projects, programs and services.
Caldwell began his state government career in 2000 with VDOT, serving as public affairs manager in VDOT’s Richmond and Hampton Roads districts. He left VDOT in 2005 to become statewide director of public relations for the Virginia Department of Health, returning to VDOT in 2006 as an assistant public affairs director.
Earlier, he was a news reporter and before that a member of Circuit City’s corporate communications staff.
“Jeff’s knowledge of VDOT and his broad communications experience will greatly benefit the public as he helps citizens stay informed of the progress of Virginia’s transportation system in keeping our state a great place to do business and live. I am happy to name him as part of our executive team after a six-month nationwide search to fill this key leadership role,” said VDOT Commissioner David S. Ekern.
Caldwell had an early introduction to the transportation field when he worked summers on highway construction and maintenance in upstate New York while completing a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Richmond.
In his career, he has earned several professional accolades, including two Virginia Press Association awards for journalism and three VDOT Commissioner’s Awards of Excellence.
