Highway contract approved for Lee County
RICHMOND, Va. – A highway contract valued at approximately $1.5 million was recently awarded in the Bristol District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The Bristol District consists of 12 counties in southwestern Virginia: Washington, Smyth, Lee, Scott, Russell, Buchanan, Tazewell, Bland, Wise, Dickenson, Grayson and Wythe.
Elk Knob, Inc., Pennington Gap received the $1.5 million contract to replace the bridge beams, concrete deck and perform minor repairs to the Alternate Route 58 bridge over the Powell River in Lee County, located just east of Pennington Gap.
During construction, temporary traffic signals will maintain one-lane traffic across the bridge. Width restrictions will be in place on Alternate Route 58 during construction, tentatively scheduled to begin in mid-July.
