Motorists advised to watch out for heavy bicycle traffic during Bike Virginia activities
June 21 - 25, 2008
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. – Motorists are advised the 21st Annual Bike Virginia Event will be held in Washington County Saturday through Wednesday (June 21 to June 25) between the hours of 6 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day. Approximately 1,800 cyclists are expected to participate in the event.
Motorists should be prepared to encounter slow moving traffic and use extreme caution in the vicinity of the following routes:
· June 21-22 & June 25: Route 11 - Lee Highway from the Bristol, Virginia corporate limits to the intersection of Route 11 & Route 808 - Halls Bottom Road.
· June 21: Route 647 - Old Jonesboro Road, from Route 808 - Halls Bottom Road to Route 663 - Golden View Drive.
· June 23: Route 19 - Porterfield Highway, from Route 802 - Mendota Road to Route 689 - Brumley Gap Road. The northbound lanes of Route 19 will be restricted to one-lane traffic on June 23.
· June 24: Route 58 - Jeb Stuart Highway, from Route 712 - Delmar Road to the Town of Damascus.
Traffic control assistance is being provided by VDOT, Virginia State Police, and the Washington County Sheriff's Dept. Please contact the VDOT Abingdon Residency at (276) 676-5503 if you have questions regarding traffic control for this event.
