Mel Counts selected for maintenance superintendent post at Blackford area headquarters
BRISTOL—Mel Counts was recently named maintenance superintendent for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Blackford Area Headquarters.
Counts began his career with VDOT in 1993 as an equipment operator. He moved to the role of supervisor for the Blackford area headquarters in 2003, the position he held prior to his promotion to superintendent.
In his new role, Counts will be responsible for the maintenance of 260 miles of state maintained roadways located in the eastern portion of Russell County.
Counts is a 1982 graduate of Honaker High School. He joined the United States Air Force in 1983 and remained in the military through 1987.
Counts and his wife, Kim, reside in Honaker with their 17-year-old son, Trevor.
