DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING NOVEMBER 19 FOR ROUTE 613 (EAST STONE GAP ROAD) IN WISE COUNTY
Scheduled from 5 - 7 p.m. at Powell Valley Middle School

BRISTOL - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing this month to show plans for the proposed widening of a .65-mile section of Route 613 (East Stone Gap Road) in Wise County.  The proposed project begins just west of the intersection of Route 617 (Stewart Street) and ends just east of the intersection of Route 612 (Tate Springs Road).

The public hearing will be held Tuesday, November 19 from 5-7 p.m. at Powell Valley Middle School, 3137 Second Avenue East, Big Stone Gap.

To give citizens more flexibility in their participation, there will be no formal presentation. Instead, citizens will be able to review maps, drawings and other materials explaining the proposed project and discuss the plans with VDOT representatives at their convenience anytime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m

In addition to widening a .65-mile section of Route 613, there are also drainage improvements and guardrail additions proposed.

During a portion of the construction project, there is a proposed temporary road closure to remove a vertical rock cut on the west end of the project.  Traffic will use Route 612 (Tate Spring Road), Route 609 (Baum Hollow Road), Route 612 (Clinch Haven Road) and Route 602 (Egan Road) to detour.

In addition to having flexibility to participate anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. November 19, citizens will have an opportunity to record verbal comments for the official record anytime during the meeting. Written comments will be accepted during the meeting or may be submitted to VDOT by November 29, 2013.

Maps and other materials pertaining to the project are available for review at the VDOT Bristol District Office, 870 Bonham Road, Bristol, Virginia.  For additional information, or if you require special assistance to participate in the meeting, please call the VDOT District Office at (276) 669-6151 or device for hearing impaired (TTY) at 711.
