Design Public Hearing for Business Route 23 widening in Wise Tuesday
October 16 from 4 - 6 p.m. at Wise Municipal Building

BRISTOL – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing tomorrow to show plans for the widening of a half-mile section of Business Route 23 in the Town of Wise.

The public hearing will be held Tuesday (October 16) from 4-6 p.m. at Wise Municipal Building, located at 501 West Main Street in Wise.

The purpose of the meeting is to give citizens an opportunity to review the proposed project plans that include widening Business Route 23 from just west of the intersection of Route 757 to just east of the intersection of Cherry Street. The proposed project would widen the roadway to provide four undivided travel lanes: two northbound lanes, one southbound lane, and one continuous two-way left turn lane. A sidewalk and lighting will be added to the southeast side of Business Route 23.

VDOT encourages all interested citizens to attend the information meeting. To give citizens more flexibility in their participation, there will be no formal presentation. Instead, citizens will be able to review plans with VDOT representatives at their convenience anytime between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Also, citizens will have an opportunity to record verbal comments for the official record anytime during the meeting. Written comments will be accepted during the meeting or may be submitted to VDOT by October 26, 2018. Mail comments to Mr. James Bullins, Project Manager, 870 Bonham Road, Bristol, Virginia 24201. Or, email comments to bristolinfo@vdot.virginia.gov, referencing “Business Route 23 widening in Wise” in the email subject line.
