Motorists Warned That Bridges May Be Slick During Early Morning Hours
ROADS REPORTED CLEAR, CREWS MONITORING CONDITIONS
Motorists warned that bridges may be slick during early morning hours
CULPEPER – Roads across Central Virginia are reported wet early Friday morning with no significant icing. Most of the area received a mix of sleet and freezing rain late Thursday night but no accumulations were reported.
VDOT crews are patrolling the roads and applying sand on bridges and known cold spots across the area. Motorists are urged to use caution while driving in the pre-dawn hours, particularly on bridges. Temperatures are hovering right around freezing throughout area so any moisture on the bridge decks will freeze before it freezes on road surfaces.
With nighttime temperatures expected to plunge well below freezing over the weekend and early next week, motorists should be aware that any water on the roads will likely refreeze at night. Travelers should use caution when driving at night, especially on secondary roads.
Motorists can get information on the latest road conditions, incidents and weather forecasts by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia, or on the Web at www.511Virginia.org.
