ROAD CONDITIONS IMPROVING IN CENTRAL VIRGINIA

ROAD CONDITIONS IMPROVING IN CENTRAL VIRGINIA
Minor conditions reported on primary roads; crews shifting to secondaries

CULPEPER – Traveling conditions are improving rapidly across the Culpeper District’s nine counties with minor conditions – due to areas of slush - reported on I-64 and I-66 and on most primary roads.

However, motorists traveling on I-64 east of Charlottesville – particularly between mileposts 124 and 174 - should be on the alert for restricted lanes as crews remove fallen trees and branches near the edge of the roadway. There were few reports of downed trees in other areas of the district.

Traveling remains treacherous on less traveled secondary roads where VDOT crews and hired contractors are now concentrating their efforts, hoping to get to most of them by the end of the day while temperatures remain above freezing.

Drivers should remain on the lookout for slick spots and possible debris across the roadway, particularly with high winds expected this afternoon and evening.

For further information on incidents and road conditions throughout the state call 511. In areas where 511 is unavailable, dial 1-800-578-4111. Traffic alerts and traveler information also are available at www.511Virginia.org. Road condition information can also be obtained by calling the Highway Helpline at (800) 367-ROAD. (TTY users, call 711)
