Roads Reported Clear But Motorists Should Expect to Encounter Some Ice
CULPEPER – Roads across Central Virginia are reported mostly clear of snow and ice early Thursday morning, but motorists should be aware that any water left on the roadways has frozen overnight and they may encounter icy patches and black ice, particularly in the early morning hours.
VDOT crews are patrolling the roads and applying sand on bridges and known cold spots across the area to prepare for Thursday’s morning traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution while driving in the pre-dawn hours, particularly on bridges, entrance and exit ramps, crossovers and turn lanes.
With nighttime temperatures expected to remain well below freezing at night over the weekend and early next week, motorists should be aware that any water on the roads will likely continue to refreeze at night. Travelers should use caution when driving at night, especially on secondary roads.
Motorists can get information on the latest road conditions, incidents and weather forecasts by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia, or on the Web at www.511Virginia.org.
