VDOT Memorial Closed Today after Tractor-Trailer Crash
CULPEPER – The VDOT Workers’ Memorial will be closed today, Monday, April 23, while debris from a tractor-trailer crash is removed from the memorial’s parking lot.
A tractor-trailer truck lost control as it entered the memorial parking lot early Monday morning and overturned. The crash destroyed guardrail on the ramp and around the scenic overlook as the truck’s trailer overturned and spilled its load onto the parking lot. The granite memorial was not damaged.
Emergency response crews are on the scene this morning to clean up debris, remove the truck and repair the damage. The Virginia State Police are investigating the crash. The memorial, located on Interstate 64 in western Albemarle County, is expected to reopen late today.
