Intermittent closures necessary for the next 2-3 weeks to prepare for utility relocation

CULPEPER — The right-turn lane from Jefferson Park Avenue Extended onto Jefferson Park Avenue in Charlottesville will be closed beginning this week to allow tree-trimming work to be done on properties on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The tree work is being done to prepare for utility line relocations in connection with the replacement of the Jefferson Park Avenue bridge. Due to the narrow width of the right of way in that area and the equipment in use, the right turn and merge lane will be closed while tree crews are working. The work is expected to take five to six weeks; the work that will affect traffic should be completed in two to three weeks. The turn and merge lanes will be closed intermittently during that time. Each closure is expected to last from one to six hours.

Motorists can receive up-to-the-minute traffic and weather information from any telephone in Virginia by dialing 511. Before traveling, log on to for road and traffic conditions, weather forecasts and live traffic cameras on many major highways, including Interstate 64 and Routes 29 and 250 in the Charlottesville area.
