BRIDGE WORK POSTPONED ON I-64 WEST AT MILEPOST 121
Single lane closure for deck patching will begin on Thursday, weather permitting

CULPEPER — Planned patching operations on a bridge on Interstate 64 westbound near Charlottesville have been postponed due to the rain that has affected the area on Tuesday and today. The work will begin after 9 .m. Thursday, weather permitting, and traffic will be restricted to one lane at the bridge over Route 20 at milepost 121 until early Friday morning.

A contractor for the Virginia Department of Transportation will be applying two coats of latex concrete to seal concrete patching and repair work recently done to the bridge’s deck.

Because of the wet weather the concrete work will not be completed this week as originally planned. The contractor will begin working after 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28 and will continue until 7 a.m. on Friday. The extended work hours are necessary to apply and cure the latex concrete that will complete the patching operation.

No work will be done during the day on Friday or over the weekend. The contractor plans to complete the concrete patching and some final work on the joints at each end of the bridge early next week.

On Thursday morning motorists should anticipate the left lane to be closed at Exit 121 (Route 20). Once work in the left lane is completed the lane closure will be moved to the right lane and the left lane opened to traffic.  Motorists should follow the work zone signs and anticipate delays, particularly during high volume periods.

Real-time road conditions and weather forecasts are available on VDOT’s traffic and travel Web site, www.511Virginia.org. The site also has live traffic camera images for many major highways, including I-64, I-66 and Routes 29 and 250 in Central Virginia. Motorists can call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for road and traffic conditions on all major highways in the state.
