Road will re-open Saturday following pavement-marking work

CULPEPER — Route 656 (Georgetown Road) in Albemarle County will remain closed overnight, after rain cut short today’s work. Weather permitting, crews will be on-site Saturday to finish applying pavement markings and will re-open the southbound lane for the remainder of the weekend.

On Monday and Tuesday, the road will be closed to southbound traffic from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. for paving work.

Beginning Wednesday, daily lane closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. The closures will extend through the project’s Sept. 23 fixed completion date while grading, lighting and signal work is completed. No lane closures will occur over the Labor Day weekend.

Message boards will be in place to notify motorists of upcoming closures. Motorists should anticipate congestion during these times and use an alternate route if possible.
