RT. 231 CLOSED THURSDAY NIGHT TO REPLACE PIPE
Detour will affect traffic south of Etlan from 8 p.m. Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday

CULPEPER — Route 231 in Madison County south of Etlan will be closed to through traffic overnight Thursday for replacement of a crosspipe that carries water under the roadway. The work is being done at night to minimize inconvenience to people using the road.

The work will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday, at which time the road will be closed approximately one-quarter mile north of Route 642 (Poorhouse Mountain Road). Local traffic and residents will be able to access all private and commercial entrances on both sides of the closure. The work is expected to be finished and the road reopened by 8 a.m. Friday.

During the closure northbound traffic will be detoured off Route 231 onto Route 670, then to Route 643 and back onto Route 231 at Etlan. Traffic traveling south will reverse the detour.

Real-time road conditions and weather forecasts are available on VDOT’s traffic and travel Web site, www.511Virginia.org. The site also has live traffic camera images for many major highways, including Interstate 64, I-66 and Routes 29 and 250 in Central Virginia. Motorists can call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for road and traffic conditions on all major highways in the state. Call 800-367-ROAD (367-7623) 24 hours a day to report highway-related problems or request information about Virginia’s highways.
