VDOT TO REPAIR BRIDGE OVER EMMET STREET IN CHARLOTTESVILLE
Bridge work will require overnight lane closures through late August
CULPEPER — Tomorrow, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin a bridge repair project on the Route 29/250 Bypass bridge over Route 29 Business (Emmet Street North) in Charlottesville, near Best Buy.
Crews from McClain & Co., a VDOT contractor, will work at night from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. to minimize traffic impact on this high-volume road. Work will occur tomorrow night, then break for Fourth of July holiday traffic, and resume July 5-7. Beginning Sunday, July 10, McClain will observe a regular Sunday-Thursday schedule. No work will be done on Friday or Saturday nights.
During the work hours only, motorists should expect travel delays due to lane closures and are asked to drive with caution through the work zone. Ramp access will not be affected by the construction.
The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the bridge decks to extend their life. This involves patching deteriorated areas, overlaying the bridge deck with a latex sealant, and replacing the bridge joints. The work is scheduled for completion in late August, weather permitting.
Real-time road conditions and weather forecasts are available on VDOT’s traffic and travel Web site, www.511Virginia.org. The site also has live traffic camera images for many major highways, including Interstate 64, I-66 and Routes 29 and 250 in Central Virginia. Motorists can call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for road and traffic conditions on all major highways in the state.
