BIKE LANES, SIDEWALK COMING TO RT. 1015 IN FLUVANNA
Work will begin April 10 near Lake Monticello
CULPEPER — On April 10, the Virginia Department of Transportation and Vess Excavating, Ltd. of Charlottesville will begin a project to make pedestrian and bicycle improvements on Route 1015 (Turkey Sag Trail) in Fluvanna County.
The project will add sidewalks, a pedestrian island with crosswalk and bicycle lanes to a 0.17-mile stretch of Route 1015 just east of Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway). Route 1015 lies within the Food Lion Shopping Center and is used by 7,500 vehicles per day, as well as a large number of pedestrians and bicyclists from the adjacent Lake Monticello community.
During construction, lane closures will occur. Motorists are asked to drive with caution through the work zone and stay alert for changes to the traffic pattern.
Vess Excavating, Ltd., with a low bid of $148,067.73, was awarded the construction contract for this project in early March. The contract has a fixed completion date of Sept. 28.
