DETOUR ESTABLISHED FOR RT. 250 AT AFTON MOUNTAIN
Road will be closed for several hours due to police investigation

CULPEPER – A detour has been established for traffic on Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) in western Albemarle County. The road is closed from Route 151 (Rockfish Valley Road) to the top of Afton Mountain due to a police investigation.

Motorists traveling across Afton Mountain this morning should use Interstate 64. Traffic traveling east on Route 250 is being routed onto Interstate 64 at exit 99 at the summit of Afton Mountain. Traffic can get back onto Route 250 at exit 107 at Crozet. Westbound traffic is being directed onto Route 750 (Old Turnpike) to Route 6 (Afton Mountain Road) and back to Route 250. The road is expected to remain closed for most of the morning.

Motorists should check VDOT’s traffic information web site, www.511virginia.org, or call 511 for real-time information about traffic conditions and delays. Android and iPhone users can also download a free 511 app that provides real-time traffic information based on their smartphone’s location.
