DRY BRIDGE RD. IN IVY WILL CLOSE SEPT. 30
VDOT contractor will replace bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad
CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation and Corman Construction, Inc. of Annapolis, Md. will begin work on Monday, Sept. 30, to replace the Route 708 (Dry Bridge Road) bridge in Albemarle County. The bridge spans the Buckingham Branch Railroad and is located approximately 0.6 mile southeast of Route 250 (Ivy Road) in Ivy.
The project involves removing the existing one-lane, timber-deck bridge, which is posted with an eight-ton weight limit, and replacing it with a two-lane, prestressed concrete bridge that will carry all legal loads. The bridge will feature four-foot paved shoulders for use by pedestrians.
During construction, Route 708 will be closed at the bridge. Detour signs have been posted to direct motorists to use Route 738 (Morgantown Road) to Route 250 (Ivy Road) to Route 787 (Gillums Ridge Road) to Route 708 and reverse.
Corman Construction Co., with a low bid of $2,540,084.90, was awarded the construction contract for this project in August. The contract has a completion date of Sept. 12, 2014.
