Citizen information meeting will be held on May 23

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a citizen information meeting on Thursday, May 23 at the Holiday Inn Charlottesville (University Area) to provide the public an opportunity to review and comment on three design concepts for the southern interchange of the proposed Route 29 Charlottesville Bypass project.

The meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will be done in an open forum format. The public will have an opportunity to speak with VDOT staff and others who can answer questions and provide information about the design concepts. No formal presentation will be given. The Holiday Inn is located at 1901 Emmet St., Charlottesville, VA 22911.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide information about three proposed interchange concepts that are being developed as part of the interchange modification report that is being prepared for the southern terminus of the bypass project at the Route 250 Bypass.

The Route 29 Charlottesville Bypass project will build a new 6.2-mile, four-lane, limited-access roadway from Route 29 just north of the South Fork Rivanna River to the Route 29/250 Bypass in Albemarle County. The project will improve efficiency and safety along the existing Route 29 corridor, address a gap in ongoing improvements to Route 29 through Central Virginia and provide an alternate route for regional traffic that will avoid the existing developed corridor along Route 29 north of the city of Charlottesville.

Written and oral comments will be taken at the meeting. Written comments may also be submitted by June 3, 2013 to Hal Jones, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, Va., 22701. Emailed comments should be sent to; please put “Route 29 Charlottesville Bypass Southern Interchange” in the subject line.
