REPLACEMENT OF RT. 623 BRIDGE BEGINS JUNE 3
Rokeby Road will close at Gap Run for 13 weeks

CULPEPER — On June 3 the Virginia Department of Transportation will close Route 623 (Rokeby Road) in Fauquier County to replace the bridge over Gap Run. The closure will extend from Route 710 (Rectortown Road) to approximately 0.8 mile south.

The current steel beam, timber deck bridge over Gap Run is posted with a 10-ton weight limit. When complete, the new bridge will be capable of carrying all legal loads. The work is expected to finish and the road reopen on August 30.

While Route 623 is closed access will be maintained to all properties on both sides of the bridge. Motorists should follow the posted detour route.

Approximately 190 vehicles use Route 623 daily, according to a 2004 count.
