RT. 230 BRIDGE REHAB PUBLIC HEARING POSTPONED
Hearing rescheduled to Thursday, Dec. 12 due to forecast winter storm
CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation has postponed the public hearing on the proposed rehabilitation of the Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road) bridge over the Conway River, located at the Madison-Greene county line.
The meeting, which was to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at American Legion Post 128, 636 Madison Road, Stanardsville, will now be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the same location. The hearing was postponed due to the winter storm that is forecast to affect the area on Tuesday.
VDOT invites public input on the project, which would replace the existing bridge’s superstructure and piers and widen its abutments, as well as improve the roadway approaches. The current bridge was built in 1939.
During construction, VDOT will maintain one 11-foot travel lane over the bridge. Traffic will be temporarily controlled with signals on both ends of the project. Large vehicles, including tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles, will be detoured around the project using Routes 29 (Seminole Trail) and 33 (Spotswood Trail).
The project’s estimated cost is $3.83 million and is subject to change as the design is finalized. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2016 and will last 15 months.
According to a 2012 count, approximately 2,970 vehicles use Route 230 daily.
Project plans and environmental documents, as well as right of way and easement information, will be available for review at the public hearing, as well as at VDOT’s Culpeper District Office located at 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA 22701, 540-829-7500 or 1-800-367-7623. Please call ahead to ensure that personnel are available to answer your questions.
VDOT staff will be available during the hearing to discuss the projects and answer questions. Written and oral comments will be taken at the hearing. Written comments can also be submitted by Dec. 26 to Howard Tomlinson, Project Manager, 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA 22701.
