RT. 621 BRIDGE IN RAPPAHANNOCK CO. CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
Advanced deterioration cited, emergency repairs will take 6-8 weeks, detour route posted

CULPEPER –The bridge over Walnut Run on Route 621 (Rudasill Mill Road) in Rappahannock County was closed to traffic today. The bridge was already posted for a maximum 16-ton vehicle weight, but an inspection Tuesday revealed additional significant deterioration of the steel beams that support the deck. That deterioration made the bridge unsafe for vehicles until it is repaired.

Bridge engineers with the Virginia Department of Transportation are developing an emergency repair plan, but the bridge will remain closed to traffic until the repairs can be completed. That work will likely take six to eight weeks. Message boards are being set up today to advise motorists of the closure.

During the closure traffic should use the posted detour route. From Route 621 south of the bridge, turn right on Route 522 (Sperryville Pike), then right on Route 620 (Five Forks Road) and right onto Route 621. Traffic north of the bridge will reverse the detour. During the closure access will be maintained to all private entrances on both sides of the bridge.
