CENTRAL VA. ROAD CONDITIONS VARY THIS MORNING
Motorists reminded to be vigilant, check road conditions before travel
CULPEPER — (5 a.m.) At this hour in the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Culpeper District, road conditions range, with ice reported on roads in Fluvanna and Rappahannock counties.
Roads in the district’s other seven counties are mainly clear but motorists may encounter some localized slick spots, especially on bridges, overpasses and ramps, which tend to freeze first.
VDOT encourages motorists to check roadway conditions before traveling and use caution once behind the wheel. Reduce speed, increase following distance and allow plenty of time to reach your destination.
Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. VDOT updates are also on Facebook and the district’s Twitter account, @VaDOTCulp.
Note to reporters and editors: Additional information about VDOT’s preparations for winter weather, how the agency responds to snow and ice, FAQs and information about the technology and tools VDOT uses in its winter weather response is available online at www.virginiadot.org/travel/snow.asp.
