Public comment on funding program, HB2 invited at May 11 meeting in Culpeper
CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Culpeper District will host the last of a statewide series of public meetings on the draft Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP), which allocates $12.9 billion to transportation projects in the commonwealth over the next six fiscal years.
The meeting will be held Monday, May 11 at 6 p.m. at the Daniel Technology Center at Germanna Community College, 18121 Technology Drive, Culpeper.
The SYIP supports nearly 3,000 transportation projects to improve the state’s infrastructure, including highways, bridges, rail, transit and bicycle/pedestrian facilities. The draft program does not include new projects that would be subject to scoring under the new prioritization process set forth by House Bill 2 (HB2).
Signed into law by Governor Terry McAuliffe in 2014, HB2 directs Virginia’s Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) to develop and use a scoring process for the selection of transportation projects by July 2016. Candidate projects will be screened and then scored based on an objective and fair analysis applied statewide. The law will improve transparency and accountability in transportation decision-making.
Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Layne and CTB representative Alison DeTuncq will attend the hearing and will be joined by officials from VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation. The public will have an opportunity to share comments on the draft program and on the HB2 scoring process.
If you are unable to attend Culpeper’s hearing, you can also submit your comments by email or mail by May 22 to the addresses below.
