DUMFRIES RD. WORK CONTINUING INTO OCTOBER
Turn lanes at Welford St., P.B. Smith Elementary will ease congestion on busy Fauquier route
CULPEPER — Work continues on Route 605 (Dumfries Road) in Fauquier County, where real estate developer K. Hovnanian Homes is adding left- and right-turn lanes at Welford Street, which is the entrance to the Raymond Farm subdivision, and P.B. Smith Elementary School. The project is being performed under permit of the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Originally scheduled to finish in early August, the improvements have been delayed by unexpected field conditions and relocation of several utilities in the area.
Intermittent daytime lane closures with flagging are expected into late October, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. To minimize conflicts with school traffic, crews will also work overnight, Monday through Saturday, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Motorists should drive cautiously through the work zone and use roadside message boards to stay updated on the project.
