Over the next four weeks, crews will add an additional left-turn lane on southbound Route 28 and extend the right turn slip lane to reduce delays during the afternoon commute.

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation has begun working to improve the intersection of southbound Route 28 (Catlett Road) and Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) in the Remington area of Fauquier County.

Presently, afternoon commuters encounter lengthy delays at the intersection because all southbound traffic uses one lane to turn right via the slip lane to northbound Route 15/29, proceed through the intersection onto Route 657 (Kings Hill Road) or turn left onto southbound Route 15/29.

Crews are working to split these traffic movements to improve the operation of the intersection and reduce delays for motorists. The project will add an additional left turn lane and extend the right-turn slip lane.

Over the next four weeks, all roadway work will be performed during daytime hours using shoulder closures but motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes.

In the near future, VDOT will upgrade the traffic signal technology at the intersection including new poles and mast arms.
