Motorists advised to use caution, stay alert for new traffic pattern

CULPEPER —On Friday, Jan. 13, the Virginia Department of Transportation plans to perform a traffic shift on Route 3 (Germanna Highway) between Route 600 west (York Road) and Route 600 east in Culpeper County, where a project is ongoing to widen the roadway to four lanes.

Work will begin at 9 a.m. to paint new lane markings and adjust traffic control devices. Motorists should expect brief traffic stops of up to 15 minutes.

Based on weather and progress of work, both directions of traffic will begin using the newly constructed westbound lanes by late afternoon.

Access will be maintained to all private and commercial entrances. VDOT asks motorists to use caution in the work zone and to watch for slow-moving construction vehicles entering and exiting the highway.

Existing message boards have been updated to notify drivers of the new traffic pattern.

The $23.6 million Route 3 project will widen the last remaining portion of two-lane highway between Culpeper and Fredericksburg.
