SCHOOLHOUSE ROAD PROJECT IN BEALETON BEGINS
Intersection improvements will address safety concerns near Cedar Lee Middle School
CULPEPER — As the intersection improvement project begins on Route 661 (Schoolhouse Road) in Fauquier County, a 300-foot segment of the roadway will be closed to allow crews to begin working on the road alignment, drainage and grading.
Beginning March 8, Route 661 will be closed from just beyond the Cedar Lee Middle School parking lot to 300 feet west. Weather permitting, the road is expected to reopen to traffic April 24.
Access to school and church parking lots and other private entrances will be maintained.
Message boards are already in place to notify the public.
To avoid disruption to school transportation schedules, a full closure of Route 661 from Route 1060 (Meadfield Drive) to Route 1070 (Torrie Way) will occur this summer.
Under a $653,879.68 construction contract, VDOT contractor General Excavation, Inc. of Warrenton will realign the east-west segment of Route 661 for a better approach to the intersection. In addition, the project will add sidewalks and a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists. The contract’s fixed completion date is Aug. 11.
