Developer working under VDOT permit to improve through travel on busy Fauquier route
CULPEPER —K Hovnanian Homes is working under permit from the Virginia Department of Transportation to widen a portion of Route 605 (Dumfries Road) to add turn lanes at the intersection of Welford Street and P.B. Smith Elementary School in Fauquier County.
The work includes adding left and right turn lanes for both P.B. Smith Elementary School and Welford Street. The improvements will reduce delays for through traffic and improve safety for turning traffic.
Crews have begun working adjacent to the roadway. As work progresses, intermittent daytime lane closures with flagging will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The work is expected to be complete by early August.
Motorists are advised to use caution traveling through the work zone and to obey traffic controls.
Messages boards are in place to notify motorists of the work and will be updated throughout the project.
