Public invited to submit comments about intersection improvements south of Warrenton

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation invites the public to attend an upcoming public hearing to give comments on the major design features of a project to construct a grade-separated interchange south of Warrenton in Fauquier County.

The interchange will improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Route 15/17/29 (Eastern Bypass), Route 15/17/29 Business and Route 880 (Lord Fairfax Drive).

The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. in The Barn at Lord Fairfax Community College, 6480 College Street, Warrenton.

At the open house-style hearing, VDOT staff will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. The public can view renderings, ask questions and obtain information about the proposed project’s timeline, cost and travel impacts, as well as provide feedback on the project orally or in writing.

VDOT will advance this project through the design-build contracting method, in which a contractor is selected to both complete the final design and construct the project. Today, VDOT advertised a request for qualifications (RFQ) from companies that may be interested in submitting bids for the design-build contract to construct the grade-separated interchange.

The RFQ asks that interested companies, known as offerors, submit statements of qualifications. Those responses will be evaluated by VDOT and used to determine the most qualified offerors. Those offerors will be invited to submit project proposals in response to VDOT’s request for proposals, which will be issued this summer.

Written comments may also be submitted by mail to Hal Jones, Project Manager, 701 VDOT Way, Charlottesville, VA 22911 through May 19. Email comments can be sent to

Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting may contact VDOT at 540-829-7500, 800-367-7623 or TTY/TDD 711.
