APPLE GROVE ROAD BRIDGE REHABILITATION BEGINS SEPT. 10
Motorists advised to use alternate routes through Nov. 22

UPDATE: Due to several days of torrential rainfall during construction, the bridge project on Route 657 (Apple Grove Road) in Louisa County has been extended about three weeks. The road will remain closed through Dec. 14.

Original News Release:

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will close Route 657 (Apple Grove Road) to through traffic while crews replace the bridge over Cub Creek in Louisa County.

The bridge, located 0.4-mile east of Route 522 (Cross County Road), will be closed beginning Sept. 10. Weather permitting, the road is expected to reopen to traffic Nov. 22. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during the closure. Access to all commercial and private entrances will be maintained.

The existing Cub Creek bridge, which was built in 1945 and carries about 250 vehicles daily, has a posted weight restriction of 12 tons. Once construction is complete, the bridge will be rated for all legal loads.

Message boards are in place to notify the public.
