Motorists should follow posted detour route during two-week closure

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the Route 687 (Shiffletts Mill Road) bridge over Buck Mountain Creek in Albemarle County for replacement of its superstructure.

The bridge, located 0.5 mile east of Route 810 (Blackwells Hollow Road), will be closed to through traffic for about two weeks beginning April 30. Weather permitting, the bridge is expected to reopen to all legal-weight vehicles on May 11.

During the closure, crews will replace the existing timber deck and steel beams with a concrete slab. Motorists are advised to use Route 810 and Route 601 (Free Union Road) to access Route 687.
