BROWN-PORTER NAMED ASSISTANT DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR FOR BUSINESS IN THE FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT
Jamie Brown-Porter has been named as the Assistant District Administrator for Business (ADA) for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s 14-county Fredericksburg District.
As ADA, she will serve as the District’s Chief Financial Officer directing the operations of Accounting, Procurement, Inventory, Asset Management, Security, Facility Operations, Information Technology, and Telecommunications. She will provide leadership and guidance in developing the administration budgets as well as providing guidance with the Maintenance, Construction, Environmental, Planning, Physical Plant, Equipment, Information Technology and Capital Outlay budgets.
Brown-Porter began her career with the department in 2006 serving as the Assistant Director of Programming in VDOT’s Central Office. She was responsible for the development and management of the Commonwealth’s Transportation Six-Year Improvement Program and the development of various financial plans, special reports and other major initiatives. She also managed the divisions Information Technology and Business Analysts.
Prior to VDOT, she was employed with the City of Durham, North Carolina where she gained experience and expertise in a myriad of public services to include: Public Safety, Operations & Project Management, Organizational Change & Development, Budget & Financial Management Services, Strategic Planning, Contract & Compliance Monitoring, Policy Research & Development, Diversity Management, Professional Service & Procurement Processes, Small Disadvantaged Business Development, Equal Business Opportunity, and Customer Service.
Brown – Porter holds an undergraduate degree in Public Administration and a MBA with a concentration in Management. She is a graduate of the 2003 National Forum for Black Public Administrators; Executive Leadership Institute.
She resides in Spotsylvania County with her husband, U.S. Army Major Torrance Porter. Together they have three children Krystyn, Torrance and Devin. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading and singing and is an associate of Faith Christian Center World Outreach in Spotsylvania County.
Brown-Porter replaces Diane Binns who retired earlier this year
