Expect delays on Route 17 north for bridge beam replacement
(Traffic to be stopped intermittently in 15 minute intervals)

FREDERICKSBURG –  On Thursday, March 12 between midnight and 2 a.m., motorists traveling north on Route 17 will be intermittently stopped for not more than 15 minutes between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. at the I-95 interchange in Stafford County.  The Virginia Department of Transportation will be replacing the bridge beam over the northbound lanes of Route 17.

In addition, the following on and off ramps at Exit 133 (Rt. 17/Falmouth) will be closed while the beam is being replaced:

·        From I-95 north to Route 17 north

·        From Route 17 north to I-95 south

All travel lanes on the interstate will be open to traffic.

In recent years, the bridge has been struck several times by vehicles that were unable to clear the 14’ 6” overpass and VDOT has repaired the structure.  However, recent inspections recommended that the beam be replaced in order to maintain the integrity of the structure.

Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through the work zone. For additional information about work zones statewide, visit www.511Virginia.org
