DOWNING BRIDGE REHABILITATION WORK IS UNDERWAY
(Minimum delays expected for the traveling public)

FREDERICKSBURG – Motorists traveling across the Downing Bridge may have noticed large barges mobilizing near the bridge that crosses the Rappahannock River.  The equipment belongs to Corman Construction and crews are preparing to begin routine maintenance and repairs on the Route 360 bridge that connects Essex and Richmond counties.

The nearly $4.6 million project will rehabilitate the 1964 structure.  The majority of the work will be conducted from the barges below; however, some repair work may require temporary lane closures on the bridge.  Lane closures will be limited to non peak travel times.

The project is expected to be complete in May 2012.
