HEAVY SNOW BEGINS TO MOVE INTO THE AREA
(Motorists are urged to stay in)

FREDERICSKSBURG (5 p.m.) – Heavy snow is beginning to move into portions of the 14-county Fredericksburg District.  Interstate, primary and major secondary routes in the Fredericksburg and Caroline County area are snow or slush covered creating hazardous driving conditions especially on bridges, overpasses and ramps.

During the evening hours snow may become heavy at times and with high gusty winds.   Road conditions will rapidly deteriorate and motorists are urged to stay in.

VDOT crews will continue to apply chemicals to the interstate and treat area roads with salt, sand and abrasives.  Crews will not begin plowing operations until there is at least 2 inches of accumulated snow on the roadway.

For real time road conditions call 511 or visit www.511virginia.org .

The following counties are included in the Fredericksburg District: Fredericksburg Area (Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George); Caroline County Area (Caroline, Essex, King William);
Northern Neck (Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland, Lancaster); and
Middle Peninsula (King and Queen, Mathews, Gloucester, Middlesex)

                                                                                       (END)
