BRIDGE WORK TO BEGIN ON MASSAPONAX CHURCH ROAD
Traffic temporarily reduced to a single lane at Ni River bridge in Spotsylvania

FREDERICKSBURG—Motorists may notice preparations next week for a bridge rehabilitation project planned this summer on Massaponax Church Road (Route 608) over the Ni River in Spotsylvania County.

Vehicles will be able to travel Massaponax Church Road in both directions throughout the project. Work is expected to conclude in early fall 2011.

A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the Ni River bridge, requiring vehicles to take turns crossing this 50 ft. bridge. This may result in minor delays for travelers on Massaponax Church Road. A single travel lane will be closed on the bridge for deck rehabilitation, which will include patching, milling and installing a new concrete deck overlay.

This rehabilitation project will also install new guardrail along the roadway approaches to the bridge, enhancing safety.

The Ni River bridge is located west of Smith Station Road and east of Rising Sun Road. Approximately 2,472 vehicles a day travel on this segment of Massaponax Church Road.

During the week of Monday, June 6, motorists may notice the installation of project signs notifying drivers of the upcoming work zone, and work taking place along the roadway shoulders. Periodic single lane closures may occur, with flaggers directing traffic in the open travel lane.

Work on the bridge deck rehabilitation may begin as soon as Monday, June 13, with the installation of temporary traffic signals at the bridge, and closure of a single lane on the bridge.
